CHCN and its sister organization, the Alameda Health Consortium (AHC), are dedicated to providing education and technical assistance to the providers in its network of community health centers. CHCN is accredited by the California Medical Association to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. AHC/CHCN is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for to LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs.
We believe that comprehensive training and professional development programs elevate the skillset of our workforce, leading to improved patient care and health outcomes. Our CME program offers monthly clinical education courses on a myriad of specialty care topics. We also provide non-clinical trainings for staff from the larger safety net. These courses address social determinants of health, cultural humility, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing and more, and are developed and facilitated by the Alameda County Care Connect whole person pilot initiative.

The mission of CHCN’s CME program is to improve the quality of care for our patient population by providing educational activities that enhance the skills, competence, and professional performance of our physicians and health care providers. Content is designed to be client-centered and responsive to our learning community, including updates in clinical medicine, best practices, and evidence-based medicine. We offer live activities, lectures, and demonstrations. Examples of CME courses include updates on hepatitis C and HIV treatment, trauma-informed care, pain management, human trafficking, and TB.
Behavioral Health trainings focus on areas of expertise and skill development that are unique to the integrated behavioral health clinician within a primary care setting. Our trainings include therapeutic modalities and clinical skills for which behavioral health professionals may not traditionally be exposed to within standard education, and particularly, as applied within primary care. Examples are CBT, DBT, EMDR, SBIRT, PST, Seeking Safety and trauma therapies for primary care integrated behavioral health. Trainings take place in a series to help build and practice the critical clinical skill set, and may offer certification. AHC/CHCN also supports behavioral health, psychopharmacology, and psycho-educational trainings for PCPs and medical professionals as an expansion of the care team approach.
